Marcel Katz


Miami native Marcel Katz is an art dealer and agent. Curated under the name, “The Art Plug”, Katz showcases work from emerging and established artists of many different styles. Katz is known for his impact in connecting artists and creating experimental showcases for people of all demographics to indulge in.

Unlike most agents, Katz did not have a traditional career path in the art world. After graduating from Florida State University, Katz oversaw creative programming for The Opium Group, one of Miami’s top nightlife & hospitality groups. Through this role, he began collaborating with different local artists to help curate unique and creative programming at his venues. It is during this time that he began developing a stronger affinity for art. As a result, he started developing his own personal collection and gradually switched career paths from nightlife to selling artwork and managing artists.

In just under five years, he has worked with some of the industry’s leading artists and became the world’s youngest Salvador Dali dealer at only 30 years old. Katz has access to work with over 70 artists including Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, KAWS, Takashi Murakami, Mr. Brainwash, CB Hoyo, John Paul Fauves, Matthieu Venot, Rhymezlikedimez, Marius Sperlich, Chad Knight, and Ketnipz.  He has also collaborated with notable brands including Adidas, Atlantic Records, E11even, Heineken, Lyft, Rolling Loud Festival, NZR Hospitality group, SBE, and Stoli.

In 2017, Katz created Marcel Katz Art, an art dealership and pop-up gallery.  His unmatched ambition led to the creation of The Art Plug, his cohesive brand and creative art agency providing bespoke solutions to all art related needs. From curated brand activations and murals, to artist development and consulting, The Art Plug offers a wide range of services to clients from around the world. His team has since expanded with some of the most brilliant emerging and established artists in the industry, creating a movement unlike anything before it.

Art Palm Beach 2019

In 2018, Katz launched his new conceptual event platform,  The Art Plug Power House,  during Miami Art Week (Art Basel Miami). Its first iteration featured 32 contemporary artists from various creative disciplines hand selected by Katz himself, who joined forces to convert a police-impound in Allapattah, into a multi-faceted space exhibiting sensory artworks and installations. The Art Plug Power House became one of the largest independent art fairs during Miami Art Week 2018 attracting over 3,000 attendees over the course of two nights. Following the massive success of The Art Plug Power House’s Art Week debut, Katz launched its second iteration at ArtPalmBeach 2019 in January, converting over 20% of the fairground filled with modern art and experiential activations. The Art Plug Power House will be back during Miami Art Week 2019 and Art Palm Beach 2020, along with other showings at fairs and events around the country.

These achievements can be attributed to Marcel’s ability to connect with any type of audience, and his eye for spotting trends in the industry and potential within an artist. As an agent, his eccentric personality and confidence help artists realize their potential while pushing them to levels they never dreamed of.

“This is not a business, this is my life,” Katz said. “I never thought that this would be what I’d be doing for a living. This is a hobby that turned into a business. I get to dabble with different people and different creators so it’s always fun for me.”

A new generation of fanatic art collectors and artists give Katz the platform to sell, but the impact is what makes it worthwhile to him. He aims to influence through art and the relationships established on his journey, and that is shown through the dozens of collaborations he has managed. Whether it’s customizing Lyft cars with some of the biggest artists in the industry, teaming up with Stoli to create murals all over the country, curating a train for Virgin, or directing and producing interactive art activations, Katz and The Art Plug create experiences for people and brands of all demographics and industries.
